APCC/LIT WINS NATIONAL AWARD!

Albany Park Community Center's Literacy Department has been awarded the League of Women Voters Parent Mock Election Award.

During the month of October, English as a Second Language, GED, and citizenship students prepared to participate in a mock election. They spent class time learning about topics such as the Electoral College, political parties, candidates' views, debates, voting rights and much more.

On October 28, two hundred and thirty-nine of our students voted in a mock election coordinated by the National Student/Parent Mock Election. Our votes contributed to a total of over four million students and parents who participated in this learning opportunity.

Late in March we were notified that we were chosen as one of six schools out of hundreds for the Parent Mock Election Award. Kudos for all the hard work our teachers put into planning interesting and informative lesson plans and to our students who thoughtfully cast their votes.

We have been invited to receive our award on June 11 in Washington, D.C.
