Albany Park Community Center's Substance Abuse Program Receives Recognition

Chicago, IL

The Albany Park Human Services Coalition's (APHSC) CAN! Substance Abuse Education/Prevention Program was recognized as one of the top six "prevention success stories" out of twenty-seven coalitions in the state of Illinois. APHSC represents the community's educational, social service, health care, mental health, business, citizen/civic, and faith sectors. The Albany Park Community Center (APCC) is the coalition's lead prevention agency. It receives funding from the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Communities CAN! Project.

Illinois's Communities CAN! emphasizes a comprehensive, research-based approach to reducing alcohol, tobacco and drug use among youngsters between the ages of 12-17 years old. Communities CAN! is part of Illinois' State Incentive Grant known as "Illinois Prevention 2000" and is awarded by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. The Illinois Prevention 2000 project is administered through IDHS' Division of Community Health and Prevention on behalf of the Governor's Office.

The Albany Park Community Center is a not-for-profit, community-based organization that is recognized as the largest social service agency exclusively serving the Albany Park community.
